When choosing colors, you can choose one color as the main color or you can chose a main color with other accent colors. One main color with two accent colors is a good combination if you want a livelier palette for your website than just a single color.

The warm colors of the color wheel can affect viewers because of the strength of these colors. These warm colors can overwhelm your website’s content unless they are used with moderation. Unlike the mellow blues and greens, the warm colors beg for attention. Yellow will grab the eye and may be distracting if it is overused. In color psychology, yellow can be motivating and sometimes over-stimulating. In studies, tempers were lost easier and babies cried more in yellow rooms.

Orange can spark the appetite in viewers. If you wish to whet the appetite of your visitors, use orange in your Wordpress theme. It will look fresh and natural while it rings the lunch bell in reader’s minds. Red is another exciting warm color. Red can cause the heart rate and breathing to quicken and can over-stimulate too if it overwhelms a website. You should use the warm colors as accent colors because of the strength of their visual effect.

The cool colors of the color wheel has a more soothing effect. Green is symbolic color for many people. Symbolically, green has a few meanings. Green can symbolize money, prosperity, growth, youth, nature and freshness. As a color choice for a website, green is a lively color that does not cause eye strain. The color green has a relaxing effect on its viewers. Dark green is often seen as a masculine or woodsy color.

The color blue is associated with masculinity and it is often associated with authority. Websites that present information and want to be seen as an authority on the subject can do well to use blue as a main color. Blue is a favorite color with many people because of its tranquil appearance.

Neutral colors such as gray, brown, black and white have meanings for viewers too. Gray projects authority and stability. Brown presents an earthy and honest quality that could be considered homespun or earthy. Black means power, authority and knowledge for many viewers. Black sometimes have negative connotations for some viewers. On the other hand, white represents purity and neutrality.

Wordpress themes can be used because of the effects that the color will have on the website viewers. If you choose a Wordpress theme with the right color, your website will have the effect on viewers that you want instead of affecting viewers in such a way that they are over-stimulated or uninspired. Color is a powerful element when it comes to the design of your Wordpress website.

Create a Category

WordPress has the default category called uncategorized. Having any articles uncategorized is bad SEO and similar to calling a Word document ‘Untitled’. This generates good will and encourages the people and target sites to link back to your site.

Then go to the blog you reference and in your signature link back to your post and not you home page. A link on a blog should end with “.com/?page_id=2″ and not just a .com as most people do.

Customize Your Permalink Structure

Which of these two links tells you something about the topic of the post that is presented on the website?

http://compnyname.com/web-lingo-getting-on-foreign-search-engines/submitting-your-website-to-a-chinese-search-engine

Both may get you to your destination, but the top option – the default – does nothing to help a reader get an idea of your post. This setting can be changed in WordPress by going to Options and selecting Permalinks

Write all your own articles

Or at least you should write most of your own articles. This is not a plan to pull sales from any other site, just stating that readers can tell when the article is not original. If really necessary, when you have a real writes block and can’t write one post you can use other articles for the base on an article that you build on. Don’t copy them for your core.

A WordPress blog is almost a must-have these days, especially if you want lots of traffic and high search engine rankings. Google loves blogs because Google loves fresh content. And if you set up and run your blog correctly, Google will love yours too.

I was a total newbie when I started my first round of WordPress Lessons, taught by Mike Paetzold, and I have to admit that I felt a bit overwhelmed. There was just so much information. I barely got my blog set up before the course was halfway over. And Mike wants us to have our blogs up and running BEFORE he even gets started with the actual lessons.

But a funny thing happened. As I went back over the material and asked questions, which Mike patiently answered, in detail, it started to fall into place. By the time the course was over, I had a blog up and running, and was happily blogging away.

So how do WordPress Lessons work and what will you get?

It’s set up as a membership site. In that site, you get everything you need (blog files, plug-ins, etc.) set up ready for download and installation. There are videos that show how to do it all, plus PDF file checklists. The lessons themselves are held as webinars.

The idea is that you install your blog before things even start, but newbies rarely manage to do it all. No problem. Mike helps, in the forum, through his help desk, and live during the lessons.

In the lessons, Mike helps us to set up our blogs so that the search engines will love them and list them where people can find them. And he helps us set them up so that they’ll run smoothly.

Another drawback? With all the trouble-shooting and the individual questions, the lessons can get a bit tedious at times. But I’ve never considered tuning out – the info I got was just too valuable.

So even the drawbacks are actually pluses of sorts – too much information means when you’re ready for it, it’ll be there for you to make use of. And Mike’s patient and elaborate answers are worth their weight in gold, especially if they answer your own questions.

Recently I needed to create a page in Wordpress that didn’t have the sidebar on it. I still wanted the sidebar on all the other pages, just not that one (i.e. for an option or sales page).

It took me a while to find the solution, but the one I found works like a charm. Takes a bit of programming knowledge, but not too bad.

In a nutshell, here are the steps:

1. Create  a custom.php file in your favorite text editor. I use Notepad ++

2. Add this code to the beginning of your custom.php file

3. Copy the contents of your page.php file from your current theme.

4. Paste the code below what you just added to the custom.php

5. Find the code that says < ? php get_sidebar(); ? >  and delete it.

6. save custom.php

7. FTP custom.php to your current theme folder under wp-content>themes>(whatever theme you are using)

8. Create a new page.  Under Advanced options, choose Page Template > custom.

9. Thats it!

If it sounds complicated, it really isn’t.  In the video, I will walk you through it in about 5 minutes.

Most of the plugins can be found by doing a search on Google, and installation is simple and straightforward. All you need to do is upload the plugin to your web host using an FTP, and activate the plugin inside your Wordpress administration area.

1) Adsense Deluxe Wordpress Plugin

The first and most important is a plugin called “Adsense Deluxe”. While this plugin will help you to display Adsense ads on your blog, it also serves other purposes. You can use this plugin to insert Javascript, PHP and almost any other type of code into your blog posts.

The Adsense Deluxe plugin will allow you to insert Adsense ads into your blog posts by including a simple code like this:

You can create multiple ad formats in the plugin’s settings page, and you can always change these later without having to modify the individual blog posts. This makes it easy to test different ad formats over time, and also to replace your Adsense codes with other ads if the need arises.

2) Adsense Injection Wordpress Plugin

Unlike the Adsense Deluxe plugin, the “Adsense Injection” plugin will insert Adsense codes automatically into every blog post, including older posts.

This is great if your blog already has a lot of existing content, and you don’t want to insert codes manually into all of them. As the name suggests, when you use Adsense Injection you “inject” your Adsense codes automatically and randomly into all previous and future blog posts.

Thus, you will not have to worry about what’s called “ad blindness” as your Adsense blocks will appear in different positions within your content. You can also randomize different ad formats and different alignments to make sure that no two pages have the exact Adsense codes on them.

Unlike the Adsense Deluxe plugin however, the Adsense Injection plugin cannot display other Javascript ads or PHP codes.

3) Adsense Beautifier Wordpress Plugin

The Adsense Beautifier plugin just makes your ads prettier. By adding an image on top or next to your Adsense codes automatically, the plugin can help you to achieve a higher CTR (click-through) and ultimately higher Adsense earnings.

The images are generic so you can use them with any type of content. You can also create and upload your own images to be used with the Adsense Beautifier plugin. If you do this however, make sure you check with the Adsense support team as you don’t want to violate any of their terms of service.

OnlyWire Autosubmitter – This will automatically submit your posts to your OnlyWire account.

Sociable – Automatically adds links on your posts to popular social bookmarking sites.

Tweet My Blog – This will automatically post a tweet to your Twitter account when you make a new post, bringing more traffic to your blog. You can sign up for Tweet My Blog at my blog; there is a link in the resource box. You’re also going to need a Twitter account. So grab that and start getting followers, the more the better.

This is just a small example of the Wordpress Plugins that are available. You want to make sure you have these Plugins installed so you get traffic from the social bookmarking sites. The potential here is huge, and you don’t want to miss out. If you’re not yet using Wordpress to blog, I suggest you get on board.

If you want to make more money, just create your own product and promote them. If you do not want to create your own product, you may finding some affiliate products to promote. That is Wordpress marketing in a nutshell!
